rtistic Director Gregory Boyd announced that the Alley Theatre's 65th Season beginning in September 2011 will include two world premieres, Elizabeth Egloff's epic play Ether Dome and Theresa Rebeck's black comedy What We're Up Against, (the latter in a rolling world premiere that includes theatres in San Francisco and Chicago), and the Outer Critics Circle Award-winning rock musical The Toxic Avenger by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, winners of last year's Best Musical Tony Award for Memphis. Also in the Season is last year's Best Play Tony Award Winner, Red by John Logan, about the abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko, and Conor McPherson's haunting comedy drama...

The Classical Theatre Company (CTC), the only professional theatre company in the state of Texas devoted solely to the production of year round classical drama, announces its 2011-2012 Season. The CTC prides itself on producing only plays that are one hundred or more years old, and in its fourth season, is proud to announce the plays that make up its three full Mainstage productions. Included in the Mainstage season is CTC's first production of the great Russian dramatist, Anton Chekhov as well as a return to French farce with master comedian Pierre de Marivaux, and the ever-present William Shakespeare...

HOUSTON, TX - On March 1, 2011 the Alley Theatre will be awarded with a 2011 Texas Medal of Arts Award. The Texas Medal of Arts Awards are bestowed upon Texas leaders and luminaries in the arts and entertainment industry for creative excellence and exemplary talents. The Texas Medal of Arts Awards are the signature event of the Texas Cultural Trust, an organization dedicated to highlighting the importance of the arts, its role in education, and sustaining the vibrant Texas economy. The award will be given March 1 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin, Texas.
"We're delighted to be honored by the Texas Cultural Trust Council for our company's artistic excellence," said Dean R. Gladden, Managing Director of the Alley Theatre. Four recent college graduates joined the Alley Theatre staff in December as the first members of the Alley Theatre's Fitzpatrick Internship program. This program was created as a tribute to Bettye Fitzpatrick, who has been integral to the success of the Alley working for over 50 years as a stage manager, production manager, director of interns and most notably as a member of the Acting Company before her retirement in 2009. The Fitzpatrick Internship Program is designed to honor Bettye Fitzpatrick's many facets and keep her living legacy a part of the future of Alley Theatre. Internships are available in both administration and production and are limited to no more than six candidates per year...
